Originally released in 2008, Mariee Sioux’s <i>Faces In The Rocks</i> immediately elevated the songwriter to the vanguard of a burgeoning California folk revival alongside Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, Vetiver, and Alela Diane. Although Mariee had already made a name for herself as a touring member of Brightblack Morning Light, it was not until the release of <i>Faces In The Rocks</i> that Mariee’s agile fingerpicking and impressionistic songwriting made her one of the movement’s leading figures.
